Boulder Ridge Villas and Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

A waterfall trickles down at Disney's Wilderness Lodge

As it has been reported over the last few weeks the new name for Disney Vacation Club’s 14th resort will be called Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.  But, the newest part of the Wilderness Lodge is not the only resort getting a new name.  Now, the existing Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, which opened in 2000 will be renamed Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge at some point in the near future.  This may only be fair that both resorts get distinctive names as they are both at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

In similar fashion, Disney named their two different buildings at Animal Kingdom, Jambo House and Kidani Village.  Perhaps the distinctive different names will help with eliminating confusion for Members making reservations.  According to the DVC Member Website the resort’s new name “gives that rustic community a more distinctive identity and allows Walt Disney Imagineers to bring the community’s story to life in new ways, including through the re-imagined (and soon to be renamed) Hidden Springs Pool area.”

This is not the first time Disney Vacation Club has made a name change to one its resorts.  Originally, Disney’s Old Key West was named the Disney Vacation Club Resort.  Later, the name was changed to provide it with more distinction from the other resorts.

The existing Wilderness Lodge Resort, which has 181 rooms, includes a combination of studios, 1-bedrooms and 2-bedrooms.  Based on the size of the construction area and since Cooper Creek is considered an entirely new DVC Resort it seems likely that the new Copper Creek  Villas & Cabins are to have different types of accommodations in addition to waterfront cabins.

I would love to stay there but my home resort is at Animal Kingdom and the 7 month window will certainly eliminate any chance of staying there sad to say, but it’s not near as bad as the 180 day restriction for dining reservations. Something needs to be done! We have been members since 2004 and usually go at Christmas but by the time we try to make a reservation at say “Be our Guest” there are no reservations available. It happens every time no matter where we try. Any suggestions?

I have always gotten into “Be Our Guest,” but the way I did it was to be online at the exact date and second that I was allowed to book. I don’t know if you have done that and if you have, my answer does not help, but if you have not, that is how I get in.

I can just seemit know that Bolder is sold out of a particular room but Copper Creek does and I a original owner can’t get that room until my 7 month window. I can see sparks flying now with this hog wash. I feel my contract should also be upgraded if this is the new DVC game.

So if you are an owner at VWL, you will not have 11 month booking at Copper Ridge? Or you will?

Given they are making it a separate resort, I think having dual priority is unlikely, but I have not heard any official word on this.

Yet another tongue twisting name for something. Disney don’t do succinct do they?

Debbie, I certainly understand your frustration, but the name change is because at the one location there will be three distinct resorts. 1) Disney Wilderness Lodge, a Disney Hotel. 2) Boulder Ridge Villas, a DVC resort originally called the Villas at Wilderness Lodge. 3) And now the Newly announced Copper Creek Villas & Cabins, a second and distinct DVC resort. So the new names will actually help clear any confusion as to which resort a person is talking about.

We have been members since 1996. Why do they feel that they have to change the name? They are adding on to the Wilderness Lodge DVC Timeshare and the name should stay the sa,me, VWL? Whether studios, 1 bedroom or 2 bedroom villas or cabins!!

Member since 1996. Why confuse everyone and why not leave it as Villas at Wilderness Lodge! Whether they are rooms, suites or cabins, they are all the same and DVC!
