Reasons to Buy DVC Resale Other Than Cost

The biggest perk to buying a DVC resale contract is the savings. You can save more than 50% by purchasing a resale contract compared to buying a DVC contract directly through Disney! However, beyond the incredible savings are other compelling reasons to go with resale.
Inventory at the Sold Out Resorts
Disney will typically only promote the actively selling resorts. Currently, this includes Riviera, Polynesian, Disneyland Hotel, Aulani, and the Cabins at Fort Wilderness. If you would like to purchase a contract at any of the other resorts, you have to go on a waitlist. With resale contracts, there is no waitlist. Simply browse the listings of all the available contracts! You’ll even find Grand Californian contracts, which are often unavailable directly through Disney.

Lots of Inventory to Match Your Use Year
If you already own a DVC contract and are looking to add on another, it’s often recommended that you match the Use Year. When buying directly through Disney, you may have to go on a waitlist to get the right Use Year and resort that you want. When buying resale contracts, there’s much more availability, which can make it easier to find the right contract for you.
Subsidized Contracts
Though quite rare, contracts with subsidized dues at Aulani and Vero Beach are great finds! These are contracts that have lower annual dues than normal contracts. Vero Beach owners who purchased prior to the decision to forgo the development of a second phase of the resort were offered subsidies since lower dues were originally calculated based on plans for the larger resort. Early Aulani owners were offered subsidies due to an accounting error that led to miscalculated dues.
While you may find subsidized contracts on occasion on the resale market, you won’t be able to purchase such contracts directly through Disney.

Aulani
Favorite Weeks
Another rare find are Favorite Weeks, which have also been called Fixed Weeks or Guaranteed Weeks. These contracts are specific to a certain room type and week of the year like a traditional timeshare. Each year, that week would automatically be booked for you before the 11-month booking window opens. This means that you are guaranteed to get your reservation! Favorite Weeks were not offered for all DVC resorts but were sold for Aulani, Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Copper Creek, and Riviera.
Like subsidized contracts, Favorite Weeks are hard to come by on the resale market, but they are no longer available through Disney at the sold out resorts. That is, you aren’t able to purchase them directly through Disney at the Grand Floridian or Copper Creek anymore.
