Advantages of DVC Split Stays

For some DVC Members, the resorts are as big a part of their Disney vacation experience as the theme parks. All the resorts have something unique to offer from different restaurants and lounges to shopping and activities like animal spotting on the savannas at Animal Kingdom Villas or watching the sideshows at the BoardWalk.  If you love trying different resorts, you may want to consider creating a split stay for your next Disney vacation by booking more than one resort. 

Easier Planning

One advantage of split stays is that they can be easier to book. Since split stays are typically shorter than the average single-resort stay, it is easier to find availability. This also means you may have better odds of finding a room that is normally difficult to book.  

For example, finding a room for a full week at the Beach Club is usually challenging at the 7-month mark. However, a quick glance at the DVC website shows that just under 7-months out from the day this blog is being written, you could book 3 consecutive nights in a Beach Club One Bedroom Villa.

More Convenient Park Access

When creating a split stay, you can choose resorts that are close to different theme parks to help minimize your transportation time.  For instance, you could pair a stay at Bay Lake Tower with a stay at the BoardWalk. This way you can be within walking distance of Magic Kingdom for half of the trip and within walking distance of EPCOT and Hollywood Studios for the other half.

Every DVC Resort has its own theme, and split stays allow you to delight in each resort’s unique character. You can stay at the Polynesian and feel like you have been transported to the South Pacific as you stroll along the beach and relax among the tropical palms, and then you can stay at Kidani Village where you can have your own African safari adventure as you spot more than 30 species of African wildlife on the resort’s savannas. When you combine different resorts for a split stay, it can feel like you get to experience two (or more) completely different vacations.

Additional Flexibility for Using the Dining Plan

The Disney Dining Plan can be a bit rigid since you have to purchase the plan for the full length of your resort reservation. However, since split stays are made up of multiple separate reservations, you have the flexibility to purchase the dining plan for only one part of your split stay. For example, you could purchase the dining plan for the first part of your split stay. Your credits would be good until midnight on your first checkout day, and since the resort refillable mug remains active for 14 days, you can use your mug for the other part(s) of your split stay.  

More Chances to Enjoy Free Water Park Entry Promotion

For Summer 2026 and Summer 2027, guests get free admission to Disney World’s water parks on their check-in day.  When you have a split stay during the promotion, each of your check-in days is eligible for the complimentary water park entry.  This means that you have more chances to enjoy the water slides and even an opportunity to visit both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon within one trip.
