Can DVC Points Charts Change?

Points charts determine how many points per night you need to use when booking a stay at a DVC Resort. There are points charts for each resort, and new charts are released each year, often around the time of the annual condo association meetings.

While the overall number of points for a resort does not change from year to year, there can be small shifts in the number of points per night across certain dates, room types, or even booking categories. When comparing point charts from one year to the next, you’ll typically find that they are not exactly the same each year. Here’s why:

To Account for Different Days of the Week

If you happen to book a vacation for the same dates every year, you may notice small fluctuations in the number of points that you need to book your trip. Sometimes this is simply due to what day of the week your travel dates happen to fall on for that year since Fridays and Saturdays cost more points than Sundays through Thursdays for many DVC Resorts.

For example, in 2026 a trip from October 10 to October 15 in a Boardwalk View Deluxe Studio at the BoardWalk costs 92 points. In 2027, a trip for the same dates and accommodations would be 90 points.  This difference in points is really only due to the days of the week.  In 2026, that trip includes a Saturday night, which costs 2 more points than any night Sunday through Thursday.  In 2027, all of the nights fall between Sunday through Thursday, which accounts for the 2-point difference between the trips in 2026 and 2027.

To Factor in Holiday Dates

Easter and the days immediately before it are part of the most expensive travel period.  Since Easter is not on the same day each year, the dates included in this travel period vary from year to year.  In 2026, these more expensive dates are March 29 to April 5.  In 2027, the dates are March 21 to March 28.

To illustrate the difference, a stay in a Saratoga Springs Preferred One Bedroom Villa from March 21 to 28, 2026 costs 274 points.  In 2027, those same dates in the same room cost 351 points.  It’s a huge difference in point value solely due to where Easter falls in 2027.

To Balance Out Demand

Some travel dates and room types can be more popular to book than others.  When DVC notices a pattern of high demand, it can choose to increase the points chart values for a particular time, room type, or booking category to quell some of this demand.  We have seen a few examples of this happening in recent years.  First there was an attempt to lower demand for popular fall dates by increasing the point value across Disney World points charts.  These changes were then balanced out by decreases in the point values of dates in May and the summer.

Most recently with the 2027 points charts, we saw notable changes in the points chart for Animal Kingdom Villas.  Value and Kilimanjaro Club Concierge rooms have always been difficult to book due to low availability, and it appears that for 2027, DVC attempted to even out demand by increasing the point values for these highly coveted rooms anywhere from 1 to 11 points compared to the 2026 chart.  The increases were then balanced out by decreases in point values for some of the Savanna View rooms.
