Hurly-Burly at Disney’s BoardWalk: How Family-friendly Is It?

The new Hurly-Burly lounge has opened at Disney’s BoardWalk. While the lounge is for guests 21 and over starting at 9pm, Hurly-Burly is open from 4pm to 9pm for guests of all ages. If you’re staying at the BoardWalk or planning to visit the EPCOT resort area with kids, is Hurly-Burly worth a visit? Let’s see what all the hullabaloo is all about!

A Look Inside

The seaside theater can be found at the former location of Jellyrolls towards the end of the boardwalk. Throughout the lounge you’ll spot vintage posters, costumes, and props from the fictional vaudeville performers of Hurly-Burly’s past like Polly Delmar, the Siren Sisters, and Prospero. A small stage at the front of the lounge is easily visible from any seat in the house.

Getting a Table

Although the lounge doesn’t take reservations, you can join a walk-up waitlist through the My Disney Experience app, or you can simply walk up to the host stand to put your name on the list. Early on a Monday evening, my 3-year-old and I were told it would be a 5- to 10-minute wait but barely waited a few minutes before being guided to a table. Even well before 9pm, the tables were largely occupied by adults and only a handful of families with kids.

Lounge Bites

While adults can get specialty cocktails, wine, and beer, the menu also features a mix of sweet and savory bites, some of which are very kid-friendly, like the meatballs, mini pretzels, mini apple cider doughnuts, and tomato pie. Kids may also like the theater concessions, which are a trio of meatballs, a sprinkle cookie, and buttered popcorn. It’s simple, but the meatballs are surprisingly very good. My son appreciated the popcorn and sprinkle cookie.

There are even some fun nonalcoholic specialty drinks and frozen beverages, such as the cherry marquee, which is made with Minute Maid Premium Lemonade and Amarena cherries, and the overture in orange, a frozen drink with Minute Maid Orange Juice and sweet cream. It’s reminiscent of a creamsicle.

Games and Activities

If you have ever gone on a Disney cruise, the daytime entertainment may feel a bit familiar. Cast members host games and activities like trivia, mixtape bingo, or sing-alongs about every half hour or so.  While these are family-friendly activities, and kids are more than welcome to participate, they’re a little trickier for younger kids.

Pre-teens and teens may be able to name some of the songs, but younger children may at best enjoy bopping around to the songs or helping to place the markers on the bingo cards. My 3-year-old happened to have fun playing and wanted to stay for another game, but I can see some kids getting antsy.

Bottomline: You don’t need to go out of your way to visit Hurly-Burly, but it can be a fun addition to the BoardWalk’s entertainment options, depending on how old your children are.  Hurly-Burly could be worth a visit if you’re already staying at the BoardWalk or nearby Beach Club and looking for a light bite and something new to do on a resort day or after spending time in the parks.
