At Which DVC Resorts Does Home Resort Advantage Matter Most?

Disney's Vero Beach

While some people prefer to buy a contract at the resort that is most economical to purchase more points, others prioritize buying a contract where home resort advantage matters most.  Of the DVC resorts, which ones truly need that 11-month booking window?

Beach Club

Of all the Walt Disney World DVC resorts, the Beach Club Villas is easily the hardest resort to book.  With only 282 rooms, it has some of the lowest inventory in Disney World.  There’s also a very high demand for rooms at the Beach Club due to its location near EPCOT and Hollywood Studios and its feature pool Stormalong Bay.  By the 7-month mark when you can book at non-home resorts, it’s always tough to get a room at the Beach Club, no matter what time of year it is.

Grand Californian

On the West Coast, the Grand Californian is the toughest DVC resort to book.  In fact, it has the lowest number of rooms of all the DVC resorts with just 71 rooms!  Booking a room at the Grand Californian without owning points there is extremely difficult.  Even with the opening of the Villas at the Disneyland Hotel, demand still remains high for the Grand Californian.  It’s hard to beat its private entrance to Disney California Adventure and just the overall ambiance of the resort.

Hilton Head

Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort may not be near any theme parks, but it is a great destination for a relaxing getaway to enjoy the Beach House and all the shops, golf courses, and restaurants in town.  With only 123 rooms, Hilton Head is one of the smallest of all the DVC resorts.  While it may not seem as in-demand as the resorts near the theme parks, Hilton Head is very popular during the summer and tough to book during peak season if you do not own points there.

Vero Beach

Larger than Hilton Head, Disney’s Vero Beach Resort has 211 rooms.  It is a couple of hours away from Disney World and a little over an hour away from Port Canaveral, making it a nice place to stop either before or after a Disney vacation or cruise.  Right on the Atlantic Treasure Coast, Vero Beach has a loyal following, and like Hilton Head, it is hard to book during the summer months, especially at the 7-month mark.
