When you live in Florida and can simply drive to Walt Disney World, it may seem counterintuitive to become a DVC Member.  After all, you don’t need a place to stay and from time to time you can even get Florida resident discounts on resort reservations.  However, DVC can be beneficial for Florida residents.  Here’s why:

Avoid Late Night Drives Home

Day trips just aren’t quite the same.  As a Florida resident, it’s easy to visit for the day, but the drive home can be a drag.  This is especially true if you’re staying until the park closes or staying for an after hours event or party like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.  On late nights like those, it’s nice to just return to your home away from home at a DVC resort.

DVC works best when you can plan in advance and take advantage of your 11-month booking window, but if you’re only looking for a night or two for a staycation, you may be in luck.  By checking the DVC website regularly, you can sometimes find last minute availability, and being local, you don’t need to book a flight to take advantage of it!  If you’re flexible with where you stay, you can often find availability at Old Key West, Saratoga Springs, or Kidani Village.

If you regularly participate in runDisney races, DVC can be a more economical way to upgrade to better accommodations with more space, full kitchens, washers and dryers, and soaking tubs.  

Staying at a DVC resort during a runDisney weekend is incredibly convenient compared to driving from home.  During race weekends, there are road closures that make it more difficult to travel on property by car.  By staying at a DVC resort, you can simply take Disney transportation to the start of the race and not hassle with detours.  It’s one less thing to worry about on race day!
