What’s the Minimum Number of Resale DVC Points You Can Purchase?

When you purchase DVC points directly through Disney, you have to purchase a minimum of 100 points if you’re a brand new DVC Member or a minimum of 25 points if you’re an existing DVC Member.  However, if you’re purchasing DVC points on the resale market, what is the minimum number of points that you can purchase?

The Minimum Depends on the Contracts Available

When purchasing DVC points on the resale market, there is no hard and fast rule on minimums like there is with direct purchases.  Even if you are a new DVC Member, you can purchase a 25-point contract.  At the time of writing this blog, the smallest contracts for sale are 25-point contracts at Old Key West and Saratoga Springs.  

What’s the Smallest Contract That Makes Sense for You?

Small contracts are very approachable as first contracts due to their smaller total cost, and they can be a great way to see if DVC is right for you before considering more points.  Nevertheless, make sure that the number of points makes sense for your travel needs.  To do this, familiarize yourself with the points charts to see how many points you would need for a stay.

For example, if you were to purchase the 25-point Old Key West contract that is currently available, at most that would get you two nights in a Deluxe Studio during the cheapest travel period (September).  If you don’t plan to travel every year, you could bank and borrow your points to have a maximum of 75 points available for a vacation.  That would get you up to 6 nights in a Deluxe Studio during the cheaper travel periods or a 3 nights in a One Bedroom Villa during the cheapest travel period.

 How Do I Find a Small Contract?

Smaller DVC contracts tend to sell more quickly than larger contracts, so you may have to act fast.  If you can’t find a listing that matches what you’re searching for, get a jump start on finding small contracts by setting an alert in the World of DVC app, which you can download from the App Store or Google Play.

You can set criteria, including:

• Home resort
• Point range
• Maximum price per point
• Use year

By setting an alert, you’ll receive a push notification when a contract matching your criteria becomes available.
