Disney Confirms Opening Date for Starlight

The long, storied tradition of nighttime parades at Magic Kingdom will continue soon. Walt Disney World just announced new details for its latest nighttime presentation, and it’s less than two months from now! Yes, Disney has confirmed the opening date for Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away. Here’s everything we just learned.
Disney Starlight Debuts in July
Magic Kingdom’s new nighttime parade will debut on July 20th, 2025. That’s perhaps a bit later in the summer than people expected. However, everyone should have known that when Disney skipped a Memorial Day announcement, we were probably looking at a mid- to late-summer release.
To Disney’s credit, the company has a plan in place. Disney’s Hollywood Studios introduced two new attractions on Tuesday, May 27th. Crowds formed for The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure to an unexpected degree, causing wait times to swell to 100 minutes at one point. Similarly, Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After instantly became the park’s most in-demand show.
Combined with the arrival of Disney’s Cool Kid Summer, Walt Disney World is overflowing with new content right now. I don’t think anyone fully understood the extent of Cool Kid Summer, which features several dance parties, character greetings, and Magic Shots. So, Disney would have been overwhelming park guests by adding a new nighttime show right now anyway.
What Is Disney Starlight?
As for the parade, in case you missed the D23 announcement, it’s a state-of-the-art presentation clearly inspired by the beloved Main Street Electrical Parade. The illuminated visuals will exemplify the cutting edge of Disney Imagineering, while the show itself will highlight beloved characters and stories.
Disney just revealed details about several of the floats, and they all sound like genuine crowd pleasers. Disney Starlight begins with the host of the show, the Blue Fairy from the Pinocchio story, on her parade float, followed by Peter Pan, on his float.
So, Disney leads with the classics before revealing some more recent characters. The next floats highlight Asha and Valentina from Disney’s Wish and then Mirabel, Bruno, and Isabela from Encanto.
The parade also includes a luminous, colorful float with appearances by Miguel and Pepita from Coco. This particular float is a real showstopper visually. The Disney Starlight parade will employ something called “Blue Fairy Magic” to make the imagery pop. As the Parks Blog explains, curved digital monitors create perceptions of movement that were impossible with previous parades.

Other floats will highlight Disney Princesses, the beloved characters from Frozen, and Rapunzel and Flynn Rider from Tangled. Just to reinforce the novelty of the presentation, Disney processes that this duo will be “floating toward a gleaming lantern.” Later, Aladdin and Jasmine will embark on a magic carpet ride. So, it sounds like Disney has thought of everything.
We also know that Moana, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy and Pluto will appear, as Disney shows them in the artist’s renderings. Similarly, Mickey and Minnie Mouse apparently get their own float as well. In fact, the Sensational Six will anchor the final float(s) in the parade. Oh, and Disney has already revealed some exclusive merchandise for Disney Starlight. The whole thing looks fabulous!

What’s the Story of Disney Starlight?
Here’s a description straight from the Parks Blog: “Disney Starlight transports guests into the stories of our beloved Disney characters. Through the power of the Blue Fairy’s magic, you’ll watch dreams and wishes come true.”
Also, while Disney has published anything yet, the Parks Blog notes that an original musical piece has been created for Disney Starlight. That’s wonderful news for fans of iconic Disney presentation music like Wishes and Happily Ever After. You can hear a brief snippet here, and I can assure you it’s catchy:
And here’s another video featuring more of the music along with a sneak peek at Mickey & Minnie’s parade outfits. Aren’t they adorable?!
Best of all, we’re less than two months away from the next permanent parade at Magic Kingdom. Guests visiting on or after July 20th are in for a real treat.
