Let’s Talk Dirty Laundry at Disney

Ordinarily, we talk about all the fun parts of Disney vacations. Today, I’m going to discuss the parts of the trip that are necessary but decidedly less fun. Let’s talk about dirty laundry.

Villas Include Laundry Units

The beauty of the DVC program is that it encourages guests to stay for a week or longer. That’s why the DVC Points Chart lists the cost for an entire week. Disney expects you to do that often.

When you stay at a hotel for a week, the laundry stacks up, and that goes double at Disney. Florida’s heat and rain will cause your clothes to drip with sweat or precipitation. Meanwhile, attractions such as Frozen Ever After, Kali River Rapids, and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will drench you as well. You’ll probably want to swim some during your hotel stay, too.

That’s a lot of different ways for your laundry bag/suitcase to fill up with dirty clothes. Fortunately, Disney has thought of everything. The One-, Two-, and Three-Bedroom Villas offer washer/dryer units as standard room amenities. When you book one of these rooms, you’ll also discover laundry detergent packets near the washer/dryer. If your room doesn’t have enough of them, you can always ask for more. So, Disney has you covered when you book a suite.

How to Do Laundry

Animal Kingdom Villas Laundry Locations

Most DVC members don’t stay in Villas, though. The more popular booking option remains the Studio, and those rooms don’t come standard with washer/dryer units. That’s okay, though! Your DVC hotel will host a laundry room on-site. Even better, it’s free to use.

When I say free, I mean everything. When you start using the machines, you’ll notice some are coin-operated. So, you’ll simply ask the front desk for tokens to use at the machines. Also, you should go ahead and ask for some laundry detergent while you’re there. The Cast Member will happily hand it to you. So, DVC members never pay for laundry.

Still, you’ll want to know how to do it. I’ll point you to this helpful article from Lauren De La Cruz, who wrote this on our sister site. It’s a list of all the DVC locations of laundry facilities.

Once you’re at the laundry room, it’ll be just like any other laundry facility you’ve ever used. However, Disney has added an incredibly useful feature. Here’s LaundryView. It’s a website you can check to track the laundry process.

You’ll love LaundryView for several reasons. For starters, you can tell whether or not any laundry machines are open. That’ll save you a trip, although in my experience, it’s pretty rare for all units to be in use.

Keep an Eye on Your Laundry

Once you’ve dropped your clothes in the machine, LaundryView allows you to track their status. The site lists whether a machine is currently in mid-cycle. So, you’ll know which units are open as well as when your laundry has completed its washing/drying. It’s even specific enough to tell you how much time is left.

You’ll never feel stuck while waiting for your laundry. Thanks to LaundryView, you’ll know exactly when your laundry will be clean. This information allows you to do something fun at the hotel like shop, eat, or drink while you’re waiting. It’s in stark contrast to those times you were sitting at the laundromat, wishing you knew how much longer you’d have to be there.

In my experience, doing laundry is shockingly painless and even kind of fun. It’s not something many people do. So, the laundry rooms often offer a rare amount of privacy at Disney.

Speaking of privacy, you’re probably wondering whether your clothes will be safe in the laundry room. Since Disney has cameras everywhere, the security here is airtight. So, you never need to worry about security, either.

Disney really has thought of everything. No, doing laundry won’t be the fun part of your vacation, but it will be as painless as possible.
