Adding on to Your Current Home Resort vs. Choosing Another Home Resort

When you find yourself short on DVC points and ready to buy another contract, when is it better to add on to your current home resort, and when is it better to choose a different one?
Adding on to Your Current Home Resort
If there’s no place like “home,” and you are happiest when staying at your current home resort, adding on to your home resort is a great way to go! This gives you more points to use for that valuable 7- to 11-month home resort advantage. When you purchase another contract at the same home resort, it’ll be easier to use all of your points together if you select one with the same Use Year as your current contract. This way, both contracts will be under the same DVC Membership, and you can combine points more seamlessly when using both contracts for a single trip.

Choosing Another Home Resort
For Home Resort Advantage Elsewhere
If there’s another resort you love staying at regularly, it can help to select a different home resort. For instance, if you always wish that you could stay at the Beach Club but know how challenging it can be to book at the 7-month mark, it could be worthwhile adding it as a home resort. With the Beach Club as your home resort, you’ll be much more likely to book the room you want.
For a Longer Contract
Another reason you may be interested in a different home resort is for a longer contract length. For example, if you started with a home resort like Boulder Ridge that expires in 2042, you may want to consider adding more points at a home resort like the Polynesian that has a contract ending in 2066. Doing so means that even when your Boulder Ridge contract ends in 2042, you will still have your Polynesian points to use for another 20-plus years!

Polynesian Island Tower
For the Most Economical Contract
If you find yourself booking your trips at 7-months out or less, home resort advantage doesn’t really matter. In this case, it may be better to find a resort with a lower price per point than your home resort. Look for more economical resorts like Copper Creek, Bay Lake Tower, or Saratoga Springs. With a lower price per point, you get more bang for your buck, and you can purchase more points for more stays!
