Bay Lake Tower Update: What’s the Status of the Refurbishment?

The long-awaited full refurbishment of Bay Lake Tower is already underway, and some renovated rooms are already available for guests!  As of March 2025, where is the refurbishment and what can guests expect this spring?

Which Rooms Have Been Refurbed?

The rooms on the 7th floor and higher on the south side of Bay Lake Tower have been refurbished.  Next to be renovated are the lower floors on the south side of the tower before construction moves to the north side.

How Much Does the Construction Impact Your Stay?

The refurbishment is projected to last through September 2025, and during this time, guests may hear and see the construction.  This can be a consideration for guests who typically return to the room during the middle of the day for a nap or some downtime.  

The construction may also impact how guests navigate the resort.  The Skyway Bridge that connects Bay Lake Tower to the amenities of the Contemporary has been closed intermittently though it is expected to reopen some time in April.  When it is closed, guests can still walk between the two buildings on the ground level.  Construction has also impacted the elevators periodically.  The south elevators have been closed while the villas on the south side of the tower are being renovated, and the north elevators may close when that side is being refurbished in the near future.  

It’s also worth noting that even after the villas have been refurbished, the pool area at Bay Lake Tower will undergo renovations.  From January 26, 206 to early May 2026, the Bay Cove Pool, water play area, and whirlpool spa will be closed for maintenance.  During that time, guests can still enjoy the Bay Lake Pool, water play area, and whirlpool spa at the Contemporary.

What Do the Refreshed Rooms Look Like?

The newly refurbished rooms retain the modern decor that suits the theming of Bay Lake Tower, but there are also fun pops of color thanks to the beautiful Mary Blair-inspired artwork throughout the rooms.  The vibrant and whimsical artwork by Joey Chou reflects the different lands throughout Magic Kingdom.

Among the new fixtures, appliances, and furniture are Murphy beds that replace the old sofa beds.

How Can I Request to Stay in a Refurbished Room?

Requests work best when you keep them as broad as possible.  In this case, it may be more helpful to request a refurbished room rather than asking for a specific floor or section.  To make a request, you can contact DVC Member Services by phone, via chat on the DVC website when available, or the Email Us page on the DVC website.  It’s important to note that requests are not guaranteed to be honored.
