How Long Does It Take to Break Even on an Old Key West Extended Contract?

DVC resale contracts can save you thousands of dollars compared to buying a contract directly through Disney, but how long does it take for you to break even on your purchase compared to cash stays through Disney? Let’s walk through an example with an Old Key West extended resale contract. Extended Old Key West contracts sell for a slightly higher price per point compared to regular Old Key West contracts but expire in 2057 instead of 2042.
What Does a Resale Contract Cost?
At the time of writing this blog, the average price per point for an Old Key West extended resale contract is around $111 per point. If you were to purchase a 150-point contract at $111 per point, it would cost $16,650.
How Many Stays Can You Book with 150 Points?
Based on the 2025 Old Key West points chart, a 150-point contract is enough points to get you a week or more in a Deluxe Studio any time of the year, except Christmas and Easter. You would even have enough points to stay in a One Bedroom Villa for a week in September (the cheapest travel period)!
Unlike at some other DVC resorts, Old Key West has two different booking categories (Standard and Near Hospitality House), but there is no difference in point values for those categories. These categories refer to the location of the villa with Near Hospitality House villas being located closest to the lobby and main resort amenities like Olivia’s Cafe and the Sandcastle Pool.

How Does That Compare to Cash Stays?
An average night in an Old Key West Deluxe Studio costs $448.43 when booking a cash stay through Disney’s website. For a weeklong stay, that would be $3,139.01 or $3,531.39 after the 12.5% resort tax. If you were to take a similar vacation every year for just 5 years, you would be paying Disney more than the cost of that 150-point Old Key West extended resale contract! That’s without adjusting for the fact that the cost of Disney resort stays increases every year.
What About Annual Dues?
Once your DVC contract is paid up, the only other cost is the annual dues. Old Key West dues are currently $9.87 per point, so for that 150-point contract, you’d pay $1,480.50 for the year. This is less than the cost of that weeklong cash stay at Old Key West ($3,531.39). While dues do increase from year to year, the increase for Old Key West has been low with an inception-to-date compound annual growth rate of 4.5%. On average, cash stays have an average annual increase of 7.7%.
