No Copper Creek Visit Is Complete without…

Every Disney Vacation Club resort features some amenities unique to the property. These are the things you’ll remember the most long after you’ve returned home from vacation, the ones that perfect your trip.

Today, we’ll discuss a popular DVC property at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. No Copper Creek visit is complete without doing these things…

A Bite and a Sip at Geyser Point

Many hotels lack a good lounge. Even some official Walt Disney World resorts struggle in this category. Then, we have the embarrassment of riches you’ll find at Wilderness Lodge.

I’m not discussing Territory Lounge today, but if I listed the top ten DVC bars and lounges, it’d make the list, too. Still, I’m only picking one today. So, the shareables at Territory Lounge cannot compete with the menu at Geyser Point Bar & Grill.

Central Floridian Disney fans know that this place is one of the best hangout spots in the area. Its menu defies description as well, with the Bison Cheeseburger a local legend.

Everyone loves Geyser Point due to its unique backdrop. The restaurant resides right by the water, making it feel like somebody built an exquisite restaurant by a lake in the forest. So, people go here, order some food, and wait for the Whiskey Sours to start working. They always do at Geyser Point.

Ordering Ketchup

Many of you smile when you hear those words…and understandably so. For DVC members, Whispering Canyon Café will always be OUR place. Sure, anyone at Disney can eat there, but we claimed it first.

At this restaurant, the Cast Members cater to our every whim in quite possibly the most obnoxious manner possible. I mean that in the best way. This place celebrates ridiculousness by doing everything in the most over-the-top way imaginable.

I learned this the hard way, as I’m a notoriously fast drinker. I can down five Cokes during a meal. After my first refill, my server noticed my glass was empty. So, they brought me back a comically large gallon jug. And that’s not even the most famous example.

Anytime you order ketchup at Whispering Canyon Café, there’s a chance that this happens:

These are the types of memories that make this restaurant a perennial favorite among DVC members. I mean, how many restaurants in your area are just plain fun? That’s what makes a Disney vacation so great.

Riding a Boat

This statement works two ways at Wilderness Lodge. First, you can use boat transportation to ride to and from Magic Kingdom. This is legitimately the most scenic route when you’re visiting the park, and I highly recommend it.

However, there’s a second way this statement applies. You may not realize this, but Wilderness Lodge hosts fishing expeditions as well. Now, I wouldn’t say that your Copper Creek visit will feel incomplete without doing this. That part only applies to the boat ride to the parks. Still, it’s something you may want to try the next time you visit the hotel.

Taking a Tour

Conversely, there’s something you should do every visit, even if you didn’t realize before now that it’s an option. The Wonders of the Lodge Art & Architecture Tour takes place daily at the hotel. Currently, this tour begins at 9 a.m. each day, which makes it an excellent option for early birds who don’t feel like doing Rope Drop.

You’ll participate in this tour by going to the hotel lobby and hanging out near the fireplace a few minutes before 9. Then, you’ll spend the next hour admiring all the architectural wonders of Wilderness Lodge. Your tour guide will explain the meaning behind all the beautiful wood carvings you’ve admired during all your previous visits. The best part of repeating this tour is that you’ll legitimately learn something new every time.

Visiting the Ranch

Before The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort joined the DVC lineup, Wilderness Lodge stood apart from the other properties. It’s just a boat ride away from Fort Wilderness and, more importantly, Tri-Circle-D Ranch.

In my opinion, not enough people appreciate the fact that Disney built a dude ranch mere minutes from the world’s most popular theme park. The company had no reason to do it, but some mad geniuses in the 1970s had a thought. They realized Disney would need to house the Main Street, U.S.A. horses somewhere anyway. So, why shouldn’t Disney turn this place into a unique tourist spot?

That simple thought process has paid dividends for more than a decade now, with DVC members greatly appreciating the opportunity. The proximity of Wilderness Lodge to the dude ranch provides us with quick access to horseback riding, carriage rides, and simple petting. You should build some dude ranch time into your vacation itinerary whenever you stay at Copper Creek.
