No Visit to Hilton Head Is Complete Without

Not all Disney Vacation Club resorts are created equal. In truth, all of them feature their own unique amenities and activities. For this reason, members should be aware of the must-dos at every property. In our latest offering, I’ll explain what you shouldn’t skip at one of DVC’s most gorgeous hotels. No DVC visit to Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort is complete without doing these four things…

Doing Something Sporty

The first time I ever visited Hilton Head, I watched a teen prodigy prepare to join the women’s pro tennis circuit. Her name was Venus Williams, and let’s just say her career went pretty well. She was practicing with her sister, Serena, that day, and I was one of many onlookers watching in awe. 

That’s the thing about Hilton Head, South Carolina. This tourist destination has earned its reputation as a recreational mecca for sports fans. I’m more of a tennis enthusiast, but the town is best known for its golf. 

The golfing community actually calls Hilton Head “Golf Island.” You can play several high-quality public courses here or private ones, presuming you have access to them. That’s on top of all the spectacular tennis courses and training academies available. 

Lately, Hilton Head has become a hub for Pickleball activity, with a couple of tournaments here as well. So, people who like to exercise a bit on vacation will have an amazing time.

Enjoying the Hotel’s Unique Offerings

You’ll want to familiarize yourself with two spots at the hotel. One of them is easy to find, and it’s right across from the check-in desk. The kindly Cast Member will hand you plenty of maps and informational brochures. 

This place is Big Murggie’s Den, the Live Action Lounge. This serene hangout area features ample seating, a big-screen HDTV, and a warm fireplace. So, this is an especially cozy spot during the fall and winter, as Hilton Head can get a bit cool since it’s by the water.

Importantly, Disney hosts character greetings and storytelling sessions here. So, you can meet Goofy or Chip ‘n’ Dale or listen to pirate tales about the surrounding waters. Here’s a look at the space:

At the 23-minute mark of the same video, you can see the crafting area at Hilton Head. The resort also hosts a community hall, an almost warehouse-like facility where you can engage in countless daily activities. In combination, these spots will keep your family entertained throughout your trip.

Hanging Out at the Beach House 

Still, we all know why you’re visiting Hilton Head. You want to stay at one of the most beautiful beaches on the East Coast. Everyone does, but the insular nature of the area makes it something of a hidden gem. Hilton Head is a sleepy little town disguised as a tourist destination.

Disney faced tremendous pushback in trying to build a hotel here, which explains it’s not an oceanfront facility. Management made sure to acquire oceanfront access for hotel guests, though, and you’ll find it right by the Beach House. 

While I love dipping my toes in the ocean in between sunbathing in the sand, that’s not the must-do activity here. What you want to do instead is hang out at the Beach House, which is impeccable. Disney offers shuttles to and from the hotel to this spot, which includes a private pool, a quick-service restaurant, and a lovely indoor sitting area. When you imagine a tranquil day by the ocean, THIS is what you have in mind.

Relishing the Local Culinary Options

Since Hilton Head offers a slightly different style of vacation than a Disney theme park trip, you’ll want to do a couple of other things during your visit. One of them is to sample the local cuisine.

Over the past 15 years, Hilton Head has turned into a hotbed for fine dining. For example, James Beard award winner Michael Anthony owns and operates Michael Anthony’s Cucina Italiana. This restaurant is currently ranked as one in the top three in the area on TripAdvisor. And I’m just picking one example. 

Several recent Top Chef and Master Chef contestants list this part of South Carolina as their homes. So, the cooking here is absolutely exquisite, and the craft brewery scene is sublime, too. You should plan to drink and dine your way through a few days on Hilton Head Island. It’s the best way to live.
