Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Reopening Date

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will no longer star Aerosmith…but we already knew that. Now, Disney has announced the details for the beloved roller coaster. Let’s just say that Disney is full of surprises. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will look a LOT different next month. Here’s what you need to know.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Returns Next Month

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith closed for good on March 1st, 2026. You should keep that date in mind as I tell you the opening date for its replacement. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets debuts on May 26th!

Imagineers have spent the past six weeks reinventing this roller coaster for modern audiences. Apparently, the process is going so well that we’re already halfway through the process. In just six weeks, The Muppets will appear, and they have brought tons of friends along for the ride.

Before I discuss all the new faces, I’ll quickly remind you of Disney’s updated timeline. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin recently returned with its modern aesthetics. Before that, Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure received some quick refreshes, while Disney rebuilt Test Track on the fly.

Now, May is shaping up to be a historic month at Walt Disney World. Here are all the currently scheduled attractions (and a themed land):

  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – May 3rd
  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Mission 2 – May 22nd
  • Bluey’s Wild World – May 26th
  • Cool Kids’ Summer – May 26th
  • Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! – May 26th
  • Soarin’ Across America – May 26th
  • The Walt Disney Studios – May 26th

I’m not even including some other activities, such as Star Wars Day on May 4th or V.I.Passholder Days, which begin on May 1st. Also, please remember that the free water park option for guests staying at official Walt Disney World resorts returns on May 26th

Stating the obvious, next month will be massive at Walt Disney World. The return of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is an unexpected bonus to all that, as Disney had previously indicated a late-summer opening date. The fact that we’re getting it much sooner is a huge bonus.

Let’s Talk Celebrities

The May 26th opening of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets is a shocker in and of itself. Disney didn’t stop there, though. It just revealed several bombshell announcements about the ride itself. Whereas the Aerosmith version was mostly about Aerosmith, The Muppets will honor their tradition by bringing along plenty of celebrity co-stars.

Here’s the full list, according to the Disney Parks Blog:

  • Awkwafina
  • Danny Trejo
  • Darren Criss
  • John Stamos
  • Neil Patrick Harris
  • Travis Barker
  • Yvette Nicole Brown
  • Wayne Brady
  • “Weird Al” Yankovic

Longtime Disney fans are smiling at a couple of these names, as John Stamos and Neil Patrick Harris are notorious Disney fanatics. Several others have longstanding connections to the company, which makes this ride feel like a nice gesture by Disney. It’s saying thank you to some loyal friends by immortalizing them on the ride.

Let’s Talk Musical Guests

Remarkably, Disney has also put together a star-studded ride soundtrack. The Aerosmith version famously had several songs and randomized which one guests heard on each ride. Apparently, The Muppets’ version will do the same and with some really big names involved.

Here’s the track list:

  • Song 2 – The Electric Mayhem
  • Born To Be Wild – The Electric Mayhem ft. Camilla the Chicken
  • Love Rollercoaster – The Electric Mayhem ft. Jennifer Hudson & Questlove
  • Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop) – The Electric Mayhem ft. Def Leppard
  • Walking on Sunshine – The Electric Mayhem ft. Kelly Clarkson

Yes, you can hear Def Leppard, Kelly Clarkson, and Jennifer Hudson & Questlove on this ride. Disney clearly took inspiration from the creative process for Country Bear Musical Jamboree and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and here we are.

Rather than replacing Aerosmith with just The Muppets, Disney snagged several top-selling artists and a Hall of Fame band. Def Leppard even appears in this adorable Instagram clip.

How well will these famous music acts blend with Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem? We’ll find out on May 26th. It’s going to be arguably the biggest day at Walt Disney World since its 50th anniversary in 2021.
