Should You Rent or Sell Your DVC Contract?

With DVC contracts lasting for decades, some DVC Members find that their travel habits change over time. If you find you aren’t staying at Disney Resorts as often anymore, you can still get great value out of your contract by renting points or selling your contract. How do you know which option is best for you? Read on to find out some of the advantages of renting DVC points or selling your contract.

Pros of Renting

Renting can be a good option if you aren’t going on Disney vacations as often, but you aren’t quite ready to part with your DVC contract. Since you still own the contract, you can use your points for the occasional Disney Resort stay, and any unused points can be turned into cash. This can be a great way to offset your annual dues. You can also rent out your points through DVC Rental Store’s Swap Program to put your rental income towards incredible vacations at Universal Orlando, Royal Caribbean, Adventures by Disney, Disney Cruise Line, Sandals Resort, or Massanutten Resort.

Pros of Selling

Perhaps the biggest pro of selling is the payout. Unlike other timeshares that sell for pennies on the dollar, DVC contracts command a strong resale value, with many selling for more than $100 per point. There is also high demand for DVC resale contracts. More than 90 percent of DVC Resale Market’s listings sell within 30 days.

Another benefit of selling a DVC contract is that once you sell, you no longer have to pay the annual dues. With dues increasing every year, this can be a substantial savings.

Still Not Sure Whether to Rent or Sell?

If you still aren’t sure whether it’s best to rent or sell your contract, try the Rent or Sell online tool to find out how much you could potentially receive from renting or selling your DVC points. To use the tool, just input your home resort and points available per year as well as how many banked points, current points, and points you have available to borrow from the next Use Year.

The calculator can tell you the base value of your contract on the resale market and estimates for the commission, estoppel, and transfer fees if you want to sell your contract. It can also tell you how much you could get from renting out your points for the year if you prefer to keep your contract.

If you’re ready to sell, click on the link from the calculator to get you a free broker valuation with DVC Resale Market. If you prefer to rent, you can click on the link to get started on renting your points with DVC Rental Store.
