What Is an Associate DVC Member?

Did you know that there are different types of DVC Members? While DVC Members (also known as Purchasers or Additional Purchasers) are the owners listed on the actual deed who have all the privileges of a DVC membership, you can also add someone 18 years or older as an Associate Member with more limited privileges.

DVC Members sometimes find it helpful to add Associate Members to have someone else who can help manage vacation planning and reservations, especially if the DVC Members are not available during the day to book reservations or contact Member Services. Some DVC Members have added their adult children as Associate Members.

Read on to learn more about some of the differences between an Associate Member and a Member.

What Can an Associate Member Do?

An Associate is able to view and make reservations as well as bank DVC points. They can also modify a reservation. Associates get their own log-in account to access the booking portal on the DVC website, or they can call Member Services to make reservations.

What Is an Associate Member Unable to Do?

Access Financial Information

By default, Associate Members cannot access any of the financial information related to a contract, such as the annual dues or loan. However, Members can authorize an Associate to access such information by downloading and completing the Associate Member Financial Authorization Form and then faxing or mailing it to Member Services.

Authorize Point Transfers

Transfers can be helpful to book trips with friends and family, but note that Associate Members can’t authorize point transfers. Instead, a DVC Member on the deed needs to call Member Services to authorize a transfer.

Sell a Contract

Since Associate Members do not actually own any part of the DVC real estate interest, they cannot sell a DVC contract. Any sale would need to involve the DVC Member on the deed.

Access Membership Extras

Associate Members do not qualify for Membership Extras such as discounts or access to special events, even if the Primary and Additional Purchasers do. They also are not eligible for digital DVC membership cards.

How Do I Add an Associate Member?

Since an Associate Member is not listed on a DVC deed, you don’t have to update your deed in order to add an Associate. You can add someone as your Associate Member on the DVC website. Just go to My Profile and then Member Information to add the Associate’s name and contact information. It’ll take up to 2 days for your request to be processed. Alternatively, you can email your request to [email protected].

Note that Associates can only be added to a Membership, not a specific contract. This means that if you have more than one contract under the same Membership, the Associate will be added to all the contracts within that Membership.
