Which DVC Resorts Have Resale Restrictions?
As of January 19, 2019, DVC made some big changes for contracts purchased on the resale market. Resale contracts purchased after that date can only be used to book reservations at certain resorts.
What does this mean for your resale purchase and the home resort you choose? Here’s a breakdown of which resorts have which type of resale restriction.
Which Resale Points Can Be Used at Other DVC Resorts?
- Animal Kingdom Villas
- Aulani
- Bay Lake Tower
- Beach Club
- BoardWalk
- Boulder Ridge
- Copper Creek
- Grand Californian
- Grand Floridian
- Hilton Head
- Old Key West
- Polynesian
- Saratoga Springs
- Vero Beach
While you can’t use resale points from these resorts to book at Riviera, the Villas at Disneyland Hotel, the Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness, and potentially other future DVC resorts, you can use them at the other original DVC resorts (the resorts bulleted above) once you are 7 months or less from your check-in date. For example, if you had a Polynesian resale contract, at the 7-month booking window you could use those points to book a stay at the Grand Floridian.

Which Resale Points Can Only Be Used at Their Home Resort?
It’s possible that other future resorts like Lakeshore Lodge could also have this same type of restriction.
Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort
If any of these resorts is your favorite place to stay, the resale restrictions may not matter much to you at all. For example, if you purchase a resale Disneyland Hotel contract, those points can only be used at the Disneyland Hotel. However, if you were searching for a contract to use specifically for your Disneyland trips, the restrictions aren’t a big deal, and you would save around $65 per point by going with a resale contract compared to buying directly through Disney.
Where Else Can I Use My Resale Points?
Interval International
All resale DVC points can be used for non-Disney trips through Interval International. This exchange program offers accommodations around the world, including hotels or condo-style accommodations.
