Why Buy Multiple Small DVC Contracts Instead of One Large One?
DVC contracts come in all sizes, ranging from 25 points to well over 500 points. Besides figuring out how many points you may need, it’s worth considering whether you want one large contract or multiple small contracts. Is there an advantage to having multiple small DVC contracts instead of having one large contract?
Multiple Home Resorts
Each DVC contract has points specific to a particular home resort. You can book at your home resort up to 11 months out from your check-in date whereas you can only book non-home resorts at the 7-month mark or under. Some DVC Members have more than one favorite resort, so it’s advantageous to own points at multiple resorts. This allows you to book at more than one resort at the 11-month mark. Just note that you cannot combine points from different home resorts for one booking until the 7-month mark.

For example, if you had 100 points at Saratoga Springs and 100 points at the Beach Club, you couldn’t use all 200 of your points to book at the Beach Club until the 7-month mark. Instead, you may be better off borrowing points from the next Use Year if you need 100 Beach Club points for a single booking at the 11-month mark.
Greater Flexibility for the Future
Over the course of a contract’s life, your lifestyle and vacation habits can change. While most people don’t buy DVC contracts with the intention of selling, selling is still common for many reasons that have nothing to do with being dissatisfied with DVC.
Should you wish to sell your contract in the future, smaller contracts tend to sell more quickly than larger ones. Plus, if you have your points split into a few small contracts, it gives you the ability to unload just a portion of your points instead of selling them all at once.
An Easier Means to Pass Down Points
Some DVC Members purchase their points with the intention of passing on the magic to the next generation. Since you can’t just break up points from a single large contract, sometimes it’s easier to plan in advance and have two or more small contracts. This way, each child can inherit a contract.
