Why Do People Sell Their DVC Contracts?

If so many people enjoy Disney Vacation Club so much, why do some sell their DVC contracts?  Well, oftentimes people sell their contracts for reasons that have nothing to do with dissatisfaction with DVC.

For Home Resort Advantage

For some people, selling their contract allows them to purchase a contract at a different home resort.  Maybe you purchased points at the resort that was the most economical, or maybe after staying at other DVC resorts, you realized you enjoy another resort more than your current home resort.  Some resorts like the Beach Club and Grand Californian are so hard to book at the 7-month mark that owning a contract there is pretty much the only way to regularly stay at the resort.

For a Better Use Year

Use Year doesn’t always matter, but if you consistently travel at the same time of year, it can make a difference should you ever need to cancel a trip.  For example, if your trip falls after your Use Year’s banking deadline and you end up canceling, you have to use those points before the end of the Use Year or else they expire.  Sometimes people realize that a different Use Year would be a better fit only after they begin using their points to book trips.

DVC Members who have multiple contracts sometimes find that things would be easier if all their contracts had the same Use Year.  Having one Use Year makes it simpler to keep track of banking deadlines and any expiring points.  Plus, with one Use Year for multiple contracts, you would only have one DVC membership instead of multiple if you had different Use Years.  This makes it easier to use your points together.

For More Points

When you become a DVC Member, you realize that you can always use more points!  Some Members even find that it makes more sense for them to sell their current contract to purchase points at a home resort with a lower price per point in order to get a larger contract.  After all, more points means more vacations!

For a Longer Contract

The older DVC resorts have contracts that expire in 2042.  With every year that goes by, 2042 feels closer and closer, so some DVC Members are looking to sell those contracts and buy contracts at resorts that have a later expiration date.
