Disney Announces Big Audio-Animatronic Changes

Walt Disney World was so excited to reveal big changes that it rolled out tons of news at 6 a.m. this morning. Specifically, Disney announced big Audio-Animatronic changes. Let’s discuss the state-of-the-art robotics coming to some attractions.

Meet Benjamin Clawhauser

November will unofficially be Zootopia month at Disney. On November 26th, Zootopia 2 will debut in theaters, with Disney recently releasing the final trailer for the highly anticipated blockbuster:

Before then, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will celebrate the adventures of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. The park will replace the former It’s Tough to Be a Bug! with a new show, Zootopia: Better Zoogether!, which debuts on November 7th. So, this experience will debut in less than a month.

With Imagineers currently working on final preparations, Disney went ahead and revealed one of the Audio-Animatronics from the show. Benjamin Clawhauser, the scene-stealer from Zootopia, will be part of the action!

The self-described “flabby, donut-loving cop” from the first film has already stolen hearts at Shanghai Disneyland, home to a Zootopia themed land. Here’s a video displaying the character in action:

That is one cute kitty, isn’t it? Well, the cheetah will appear onstage as a part of the Zoogether Day watch party. In lieu of his police uniform, Mr. Clawhauser will be decked out in “glow necklaces, bracelets, and his favorite, glittery Gazelle tee shirt.”

Disney also hints at the story of the new show. Apparently, the music-loving big kitty hopes to meet a certain Zoogether Day musician. When that doesn’t go right, he tries everything to “take matters into his own paws.” I’m guessing adorable shenanigans ensue.

The Zootopia Audio-Animatronics at Shanghai Disneyland have absolutely wowed tourists. So, it’s exciting to know that we’re getting one of them at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Since we’re a couple of years down the line with the technology, the American one should be quite a bit better, too.

Disney will provide annual passholder previews on November 5th and November 6th. So, those of us with annual passes can catch the show early. Typically, Disney offers Disney Vacation Club previews as well, but there has been no announcement at the time of publication.

The Muppets Are Coming Next Summer

Early in 2026, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will close. Disney still hasn’t confirmed the date yet, but we know it’ll be soon. I say this with confidence because the Disney Parks Blog just stated that the new version will open next summer!

As a reminder, Aerosmith has officially retired now that lead singer Steven Tyler is unable to perform live. Meanwhile, Muppet*Vision 3D’s closure earlier this year frustrated Disney fans. So, management at Hollywood Studios came up with a plan to please fans of both the roller coaster and The Muppets.

Next summer, Disney will introduce Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. The Parks Blog promises “backstage chaos, high-speed thrills, that signature Muppet humor… and an all-new Muppet Audio-Animatronics figure.”

That Audio-Animatronic will come in the form of Scooter, the band manager of Electric Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. It’ll be Scooter’s job to convince the group to stop jamming long enough to drive to the show. Based on literally every episode of The Muppets ever, I’m guessing that this process doesn’t go smoothly.

Notably, Scooter apparently won’t be the only robotic Disney uses on the show. The press release indicates that Scooter “might not be the only Muppet Audio-Animatronics figure joining the attraction… but we’ll have to wait to learn more about that.” So, fans can start anticipating which other Muppet(s) could appear. We’ll find out in about nine months!

Frozen Ever After Will Get Even Better

Finally, Disney has confirmed that EPCOT’s Frozen Ever After will add some long overdue enhancements. Now that several other theme parks have added Frozen themed lands, Imagineers have gotten especially good at these Audio-Animatronics.

When the EPCOT version opened in 2016, the robotics were groundbreaking in nature. Nearly a decade later, they seem almost quaint, a point that came up repeatedly when Hong Kong Disneyland’s version opened. That version of the ride’s Audio-Animatronics somehow made the originals look ancient, even though they’re just nine years old.

Now, Disney officials will do something about the discrepancy. According to the Parks Blog, EPCOT’s version of Frozen Ever After will enhance its Audio-Animatronics in early 2026. So, between now and next summer, that’s three more changes we can add to the pile of Disney improvements. Walt Disney World will legitimately be better than ever by this time next year.
