Disney Lakeshore Lodge Opening Date Revealed

A nine-year plan finally comes together next year when the next Disney Vacation Club resort finally debuts. We just learned when Disney Lakeshore Lodge will make its long-anticipated arrival. Let’s discuss the details.
The Circuitous History of Lakeshore Lodge
At the 2018 Destination D23 event, Disney revealed its next big hotel project. At the time, Disney’s Riviera Resort was still a year from opening, just to demonstrate how long this has been. Here’s the first time I discussed it on the site.
Disney’s reveal quickly drew attention due to the property’s unique location. Disney’s River Country had closed in 2001, leaving this place largely abandoned for nearly 20 years. At Destination D23, park officials detailed the plans to repurpose the space into a luxury hotel.
By early 2020, Disney was already moving dirt on the project and had every intention of going vertical that year. Then, we all know what happened in March 2020, even if we’re loath to discuss it. Suddenly, Disney faced a capital expenditures budget shortfall and reduced its financial layout to less than $1 billion. As part of this unexpected change, construction stopped overnight on the planned hotel.
For this reason, Disney will never open Reflections—A Disney Lakeside Lodge. For the longest time, this project seemed dead, and the land was abandoned yet again. Management went so far as to fill out the paperwork to shut down work on this parcel of land.
Then, in late 2024, a shocking twist unfolded. New leadership at Disney reevaluated the situation and realized an obvious truth. Construction crews had already done the heavy lifting in prepping this land for a hotel build. Disney could finish the work at a relatively low cost, since part of it had already been completed. It was like Disney built a resort on an installment plan.
Now, Disney is once again constructing a luxury hotel on this space, and we just learned when it will open. According to the Parks Blog, Disney Lakeshore Lodge will debut in the summer of 2027.

What We Know about Lakeshore Lodge
The Parks Blog indicated that it’ll post a new series called Letters from Lakeshore. So, fans can follow along with the construction process over the next year. The Parks Blog promises to “share new details—from first looks to finishing touches, with exclusive behind-the-scenes moments along the way.”
As part of this new series, Disney just confirmed that Lakeshore Lodge will offer 967 “thoughtfully designed rooms.” So, this will be a large resort that’s sure to have a sizable amount of DVC inventory.
Disney added that the hotel’s theming will celebrate the beauty of nature as told through the lens of Disney stories. Imagineers have drawn inspiration from Bambi, Brother Bear, and Pocahontas in designing the buildings. While the Riviera paid tribute to the European vacations of Walt and Lillian Disney, Lakeshore Lodge will honor Uncle Walt’s love of the great outdoors.
The Park Blog suggests that this property will “invite families to slow down, take in their surroundings, and create cherished memories together.” The rooms will feature floor-to-ceiling windows that provide panoramic views of this natural setting.
Disney had previously cleaned up the land formerly used by River Country. In 2018, I described the situation as follows: “Since the plants and the trees in the area were allowed to grow unabated for more than 15 years, Disney saves money by leaning into the natural ecosystem.”
Now, guests can enjoy the serenity of those sights on the breathtaking shores of Bay Lake. In fact, the article emphasizes that DVC members can enjoy nightly views of Magic Kingdom’s fireworks. So, Lakeshore Lodge will have that in common with the monorail resorts.
Finally, the Parks Blog confirms that one- and two-bedroom Lake Houses will be booking options when Lakeshore Lodge debuts. Those will be in high demand next summer.
