Are DVC Resale Members Treated Differently?
Knowing that there are some incidental benefits for DVC Members who purchase points directly from Disney, perhaps you’re wondering if DVC Resale Members are treated any differently than Direct Members. Simply put, the answer is no. You still use the same DVC website to make your resort reservations, get assistance from Member Services, and of course you get the warm Disney hospitality of the cast members when you have your DVC resort stays!
Beyond that, there are a few ways in which being a DVC Resale Member isn’t any different at all from being a DVC Direct Member:
You Get the 7-11 Month Home Resort Advantage
No matter which DVC resort you choose as your home resort, you still get the home resort advantage of booking up to 11-months out from your check-in date. This is true even of resorts like Riviera, The Villas at Disneyland Hotel, and The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, which have resale restrictions.
You Can Bank and Borrow Points
As a DVC Resale Member, you are still getting the same core product: DVC points to use for stays at Disney Resorts. The flexibility that DVC offers with banking and borrowing remains unchanged when you are a DVC Resale Member. You can bank any unused points to use them in the next Use Year or borrow points from the next Use Year if you need to use more points this year.
You Can Buy One-Time-Use-Points
When you are short on points, you can purchase up to 24 one-time-use points by calling Member Services. They can only be used to book at the 7-month window or less and expire at the end of your Use Year. This is the same whether you are a Direct or Resale Member. These points currently cost $20 per point. Note that you cannot bank, borrow, or transfer these points, and you cannot cancel your purchase or get a refund even if you cancel your resort reservation.
You Can Transfer Points
While transferring points to someone else for profit is not permitted by DVC, DVC Resale Members can still transfer points between their own DVC memberships (if they have more than one) or transfer points in or out of their membership to friends and family. Transfers make it easier to pool points together to book larger accommodations for a family reunion or vacation with friends! You can make one transfer in or out per DVC membership per year.
You Can Exchange Points with Interval International
If it’s time to explore other destinations, DVC Resale Members have the option of exchanging their points into Interval International for resorts around the world just like any other DVC Member.
For a better value, don’t forget that you can use DVC Rental Store’s Point Swap Program for vacations like Universal Orlando Resort, Disney Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney, and Sandals Resorts. There are no exchange fees, blackout dates, or exclusions!
You Get All the Benefits of Being a Disney Resort Guest
Last but not least, during your stay you get all the usual perks of staying at a Disney Resort from Early Theme Park Entry and complimentary theme park transportation to limited-time benefits like Extended Evening Theme Park Hours for guests at Disney Deluxe Resorts (including the DVC resorts) and free water park entry on check-in days in 2025.
