Comparing the Different Types of DVC Studios

Studios are typically the most popular type of accommodation to book at the DVC resorts.  They are available at every DVC resort except for The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, and they cost the least number of points.  However, there are now a few different types of Studios, including Deluxe, Resort, and Duo or Tower.  Here’s what to know about the differences among the Studios from capacity to amenities.

Deluxe Studios

This is the room type that most people think of when you say Studio.  They sleep up to 4 or 5 guests, depending on the resort.  Some have a queen bed and a sofa bed while others have a queen bed and a Murphy bed.  At Old Key West, they even have two queen beds.  Some, like those at BoardWalk, Boulder Ridge, Beach Club, Grand Floridian, Polynesian (in the longhouses), and Riviera, have a pulldown bed to sleep a fifth guest.

All have a kitchenette with a coffee maker, toaster, microwave, plates, bowls, cups, mugs, cutlery, and mini fridge or beverage cooler.  Those at the Island Tower at the Polynesian also have a dishwasher.

Resort Studio

Resort Studios are only available at the Grand Floridian in the Big Pine Key building.  These are more like regular hotel rooms and sleep up to 5 guests.  The biggest differences between the Deluxe Studio and Resort Studio are that Resort Studio has two regular queen beds (no Murphy bed) and a sofa couch, and it lacks a true kitchenette in the Resort Studio.  Instead of a kitchenette, Resort Studios have a beverage center that has a coffee maker, beverage cooler, microwave, plates, bowls, cups, mugs, and cutlery.  It does not have a sink or toaster like the typical Studio kitchenette.

Duo or Tower Studio

This room type is called a Tower Studio at Riviera or a Duo Studio at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel and the Island Tower at the Polynesian.  These smaller studios are more compact and only sleep up to 2 guests.  To save space, the Duo and Tower Studios have a Murphy bed instead of a regular queen bed.  They also have a small kitchenette with a coffee maker, microwave, toaster, mini fridge, plates, bowls, cups, mugs, and cutlery.  It just lacks the extra sink that the usual Studio kitchenettes have.  Despite the small size of the Duo and Tower Studios, they are well appointed with a good amount of storage.

No matter which Studio you choose, they’re perfect for smaller travel parties and a great way to stretch your DVC points!
