DVC Revises Rules for Point Transfers

One of the many ways in which DVC offers flexibility is through point transfers.  With a transfer, DVC Members can essentially send their DVC points to another DVC Member who can then use the points as their own.  This can be a great option for Members who wish to pool their points with friends or family to book larger accommodations.

With the latest Disney Vacation Club Public Offering Statement, DVC released updated rules for point transfers.  The new rules expand the types of points that Members are allowed to transfer.

How Do You Transfer DVC Points?

Members can make a transfer by calling DVC Member Services.  DVC Members may make one transfer in or out of their membership per Use Year.  Any transferred points retain their original Use Year and home resort advantage.

For example, if you transferred in 50 BoardWalk points from 2025 with a February Use Year, you could use those points to book a stay at the BoardWalk in the 7-11 month booking window, and the points would expire on January 31, 2026.

It’s important to note that the Public Offering Statement states, “Club Members are expressly prohibited from receiving compensation for engaging in any Transfer activity.”

Who Can Make or Receive a Transfer?

Any DVC Member can make or receive a transfer as long as they are a Member in good standing who is current on their annual dues, loan payments, or any other balances related to their DVC Membership.  This includes DVC Resale Members!

What Kinds of Points Can You Transfer?

In the past, you could only transfer Vacation Points (what we commonly think of as DVC points and use to book stays at DVC resorts) from the current Use Year.  Banked or borrowed points could not be transferred.  However, the latest rules now allow for transfers to include current points as well as banked points or borrowed points.

In addition, DVC now permits Reservation Points and Holding Points to be transferred.  Reservation Points are different from Vacation Points.  You convert your Vacation Points into Reservation Points if you book Disney Collection accommodations or hotel exchange.  Reservation Points cannot be used to book DVC resorts.

Your Vacation Points turn into Holding Points if you cancel a trip between 30 days and 1 day out from your check-in date.  Holding Points are less flexible than regular Vacation Points since they can only be used to book stays 60 days out or less from your check-in date.  They also cannot be banked or borrowed and expire at the end of the Use Year.  It’s important to note that any transferred Holding Points still retain these restrictions.

All in all, the latest changes to the transfer rules provide increased possibilities for transfers and represent a positive move for DVC Members.
