Here’s What to Know about Disney Starlight

We’re less than one month away from the debut of Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away. This nighttime extravaganza will probably anchor Magic Kingdom’s evening festivities for many years to come. So, it’s a big deal and something that will impact your upcoming park visits. Here’s what you need to know about Disney Starlight.
What Is Disney Starlight?
Disney describes its latest nighttime exhibition as a “dazzling nighttime parade that celebrates magical moments from Disney stories—each touched by starlight.” As the subtitle, Dream the Night Away, implies, the constellations will come into focus, with the cute concept being that it’s a parade comprised of Disney stars.
The Blue Fairy from Pinocchio will tie all these dreams together, connecting Disney characters in this parade. Disney has promised that Disney Starlight draws inspiration from the beloved Main Street Electrical Parade. So, it’s fair to think of Disney Starlight as the spiritual successor to Disney’s most iconic nighttime parade.

Disney Starlight will debut on July 20th, and the expectation is that it’ll become an integral part of evenings spent at Magic Kingdom. Disney just posted the initial schedule for the brand new parade, and you should have no trouble catching a show.
I say this because Cast Members will perform Disney Starlight twice nightly, once at 9 p.m. and again at 11 p.m. So, as long as you’re spending a few days at Walt Disney World, you should have no problem finding a good spot for the parade. That’s especially true for the 11 p.m. show, as Magic Kingdom technically closes at 11 p.m. during the week of July 20th.
Let’s Talk about the Parade Route
Disney has revealed new details about Disney Starlight, and they paint quite the picture about what you can expect. For starters, the parade will run from Main Street, U.S.A. through Frontierland. The show will begin on Main Street, U.S.A, and then it’ll gradually work its way down the hub and spokes of Magic Kingdom toward Frontierland.

This behavior is likely the opposite of what you’d expect, but it makes perfect sense. As I just said, the park will be closing around the time that the parade begins. To avoid a bottleneck, Disney will encourage parade viewers to move away from Main Street, U.S.A., toward the less-trafficked Frontierland area. Note that this strategy may lead to an uptick in last-minute rides on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. A lot of people are gonna be wet as they wait for the bus!
In terms of how this will impact your visit, you now enjoy three different entertainment options late at night at Magic Kingdom. At 9, 10, and 11 p.m., you have your choice of the two Disney Starlight parades plus the Happily Ever Fireworks slotted between them. The byproduct of this decision is that it splits the mass park exodus into several phases. Early birds will leave after the first parade, while others will stay until the fireworks. Then, another group will depart right as the park closes. Finally, the guests at the tail end of the Disney Starlight performance at 11 p.m. will casually stroll out of Magic Kingdom afterward.
This strategy should reduce the current issue with late-night transportation to Disney hotels. Disney is spreading out the departure times by introducing this new nighttime parade. It’s a brilliant tactic.
You can learn about Disney Starlight from Disney Live Entertainment’s Instagram post. It shows some design elements of the parade floats I previously discussed. Let’s just say that Disney Starlight looks like it’s going to be epic!
