Why the Polynesian Makes a Great Home Resort

A wood carving welcomes guests at Disney's Polynesian Lobby

With the opening of the Island Tower, there is a lot of excitement around the Polynesian Villas & Bungalows lately.  However, beyond the new rooms in the tower addition, there are many reasons why the Polynesian makes a great DVC home resort.

Prime Location for Views and Transportation

On a practical level, there is only so much land around the Magic Kingdom and along the monorail loop.  With Bay Lake Tower, the Grand Floridian, and the Polynesian already established, it’s unlikely that any other resort will be built with that prime location.

The Polynesian in particular has a great spot on the monorail loop since it sits directly across Seven Seas Lagoon from the Magic Kingdom.  This makes for beautiful theme park views for many of the Polynesian villas, restaurants like ‘Ohana and the new Wailulu Bar & Grill, and common areas like the Lava Pool and beach.

The resort’s location by the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) also makes it more efficient to get to both the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT.  By walking to the TTC, you can take the ferry or express monorail directly to the Magic Kingdom instead of taking the resort line and stopping at the Grand Floridian before stopping at the Magic Kingdom.  You can also take the monorail directly to EPCOT without the need to transfer from the resort line.  It saves quite a bit of time!

Few Resale Restrictions

Although Polynesian resale points cannot be used to book stays at Riviera or any DVC resorts that were established after Riviera, they are not limited to just the PolynesianPolynesian resale points can be used to book stays at any of the original 14 DVC resorts.  Aside from the Polynesian, this includes:

Many Room Types Available

Not only does the Island Tower add new rooms, but it adds more options in terms of room types.  Now, the Polynesian has more than just Deluxe Studios and the Bora Bora Bungalows.  It also has Duo Studios, One Bedroom Villas, Two Bedroom Villas, and Two Bedroom Penthouses–plenty of choices for travel parties of different sizes!

Lots of Amenities

Between the amenities at the original Polynesian Villas & Bungalows and those at the Island Tower, Polynesian owners get to enjoy lots of dining options and recreational activities.  For dining at the Great Ceremonial House, there’s the fan favorite ‘Ohana, Kona Cafe, Capt. Cook’s, Kona Island, Pineapple Lanai, and Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto.  At the Island Tower, there’s Wailulu Bar & Grill that will offer grab and go breakfast, table service lunch and dinner, and options at the pool bar and grill.

When staying at the Polynesian, you can visit 3 pools!  Near the original longhouses, there’s the Lava Pool with its volcano, waterfall, splash pad, and 142-foot-long water slide or the relaxing Oasis Pool.  At the Island Tower, there’s the new Cove Pool with its sandy beach, whirlpool spa, and Moana-themed splash pad.

Now is a great time to try to buy a resale Polynesian contract!  With DVC actively selling Polynesian contracts, resale Polynesian contracts are less likely to be bought back during the Right of First Refusal process.  Plus, you still have more than 40 years left on a Polynesian contract.  If you’re interested in a Polynesian resale contract, contact the experts at DVC Resale Market.
