Disney’s After Hours Events Return and More News You Need!

Disney's Magic Kingdom

Welcome to the News You Need! January was an interesting month for Disney fans whether they owned Disney Vacation Club properties or not. Let’s take a look at some of the breaking news and news that will affect how you vacation at the Disney parks.

Say Goodbye to the Cupcakes In something of a surprise occurrence, Starring Rolls Cafe at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has closed. The cafe, a popular venue for breakfast and gigantic baked goods, has not been slated for reopen and there has been no news of what will replace it, if anything.

Disney’s After Hours Events Return – They’re back! For $119 per person, WDW guests will have exclusive access to 25 attractions and experiences, like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid, Space Mountain, and more. Events begin January 20 and 27 and continue on February 2, 9 and 16, and March 2 and 9, 2017.

FOR GUESTS NOT ATTENDING THESE EVENTS: “Please note that Magic Kingdom park will officially close to Guests who haven’t purchased Disney After Hours tickets at 8:00 PM on February 2, 9, 16; and at 9:00 PM on January 20, 27 and March 2, 9.”

Star Wars Lands Are Coming in 2019 If you’re a Star Wars fan (and maybe even if you’re just on the fence), the news you’ve been waiting for was announced. Star Wars Lands in Walt Disney World and Disneyland will open in 2019. No further details were disclosed during the announcement, but you can be sure they’re forthcoming.

Special Park Welcomes for DVC Members Next time you tap your Magicband at a Touchpoint, be sure to watch for a special color progression and listen for a “Welcome Home” from the Cast Members at the entrances. Disney Vacation Club Members’ Magicbands will now trigger special welcomes at each of the Walt Disney World park entrances.

FastPass Changes at Disneyland New rides being added to the FASTPASS system at Disneyland include Toy Story Mania and Matterhorn Bobsleds! Disneyland is also adding MaxPass, a $10 per day option that will give you unlimited downloads of your Disneyland photos AND the ability to book and redeem Fastpasses digitally! The old Fastpass system will still be free and available to guests. Read more about the changes and additions here.

Merry Mixer’s Last Spin Disney Vacation Club has announced that the Merry Mixer holiday parties previously hosted at Epcot will not return to the events calendar next year. Look to your Member Magic listings for other events said to be taking its place that will not require theme park admission to attend.
