Why DVC Members Stay at Fort Wilderness

Fort Wilderness DVC - Exterior

As you contemplate where to book your next Disney Vacation Club trip, you’re cycling through a list of several excellent options. Each one of them offers several enticing amenities that make you want to vacation there. That statement’s particularly true at one of DVC’s newest properties. Here’s why DVC members stay at The Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort

The Cabins

In the entire DVC library, only three resorts offer any sort of Room Type that could be fairly described as a Cabin. Two of them, the Cascade Cabins and Treehouse Villas, are price-prohibitive for many DVC members. Sure, we can book them as a splurge, but these aren’t places most of us will stay frequently.

The Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort provide a unique opportunity. The nightly rates begin at 15 DVC Points per night or 111 DVC Points per week. During 50 weeks per year, guests can hole up here for seven days at a cost of 176 DVC Points or less. So, most members of the program can afford this booking.

That’s important because these Cabins deliver a deluxe experience for substantially less than luxury prices. Each one sleeps up to six guests, a rarity for the least expensive Room Type at a DVC resort. Of course, to be fair, it’s also the most expensive. It’s a Cabin or nothing when you book here, and that suits DVC members just fine.

These Cabins feature a full-sized kitchen, a standalone open space den beside the kitchen, and a bedroom. In news that’s very important to parents, that bedroom door closes, allowing you to get some space from your kids. Generally, DVC members must book a One-Bedroom Villa to gain that option.

Of course, your kids will want to be in the bedroom a lot, too. That’s because Disney brilliantly added rustic bunk beds. That’s the highlight of the Cabin for many children.

To a larger point, when you stay at these Cabins, you’ll feel as if you’re taking two vacations at once. During the day, you’ll visit the magical Disney theme parks. Afterward, you’ll return home to your Cabin in the woods.

The Activities

When you choose a DVC resort, you should always have your eye on the amenities. Since you won’t be at the theme park the whole time, the hotel’s on-site distractions matter greatly.

When we evaluate amenities, I’m not sure any other DVC resort can hold a torch to Fort Wilderness. It’s a destination location for many campers throughout North America. People hop in their RVs and head to the campground.

While there, they gain access to all the marvelous activities, including the best of the bunch: Tri-Circle-D Ranch. For half a century now, Disney has hosted a dude ranch within ten minutes of Magic Kingdom. The horses that you watch on Main Street, U.S.A. live at this ranch’s stables.

So, the campground features innumerable horse-related activities. You can go horseback riding or sit in the back of a horse-drawn carriage. Disney even adds sleigh theming during the holiday season to perfect the effect.

These activities are just the tip of the iceberg. Fort Wilderness offers so much that guests can book a Segway tour of the wilderness area. At night, guests can enjoy dinner and a show at Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, the longest-running show of its kind in the world.

Historically, the campers were the only ones who could immerse themselves in the Fort Wilderness lifestyle. Now that DVC hosts Cabins here, we can do so as well. Members have quickly discovered all the benefits of vacationing at a ranch a boat ride away from Magic Kingdom.

The Location

Disney lists Fort Wilderness as a Magic Kingdom area resort. I’ll warn you that the campus here is quite large, which can make your usage of the bus system even more mercurial than usual. Of course, that’s not the form of transportation you should favor, at least not for Disney’s most popular park.

You can take a boat from Fort Wilderness to Magic Kingdom. As this video shows, it’s a gorgeous boat ride, especially at night.

The ride takes 15 to 20 minutes, and it’s breathtaking. You can sit back, relax, and enjoy the beauty of Fort Wilderness and Magic Kingdom. To a larger point, that’s the great part about staying at this campground. You’re surrounded by a panoramic backdrop throughout your visit.

The Seclusion

In addition to the beauty of the campground itself, there’s one final unmistakable benefit. You’ll somehow marry a Disney vacation with being at one with nature. I know that sounds impossible, but it’s true here.

Since each Cabin is a standalone building, you’re not sharing walls with anybody else. Folks, more than a million people visit Disney each week. It’s typically not the place to go for isolation. Somehow, such a vacation is possible at Fort Wilderness, though.

Even though you’re a short boat or bus ride from the most popular theme park in the world, you’re vacationing in seclusion. You don’t feel like you’re staying at a hotel because you’re not. You’re booking an exclusive Cabin that provides a rare level of privacy. This is the best kind of DVC vacation because it’s so serene.
