4 Reasons to Buy a DVC Contract at a 2042 Resort
With each year that passes, 2042 doesn’t seem as far away as it once did, and some people feel that DVC contracts with a 2042 expiration date are just too short. These include contracts for Boulder Ridge, Beach Club, BoardWalk, Vero Beach, Hilton Head, and some for Old Key West. However, there are a few reasons why a 2042 resort can still make sense for some DVC Members.
Lower Price Per Point
A low price per point means a lower barrier to entry for those looking to become DVC Members. On the whole, DVC resorts that have contracts ending in 2042 go for a lower price per point. This is best illustrated by comparing Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek contracts or looking at Old Key West versus Old Key West Extended contracts. Both Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek are located at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, so they have similar theming and share amenities. The biggest difference is that Boulder Ridge is older and expires in 2042 whereas Copper Creek doesn’t expire until 2068. Boulder Ridge is currently going for an average of $96 per point while Copper Creek is at $138 per point.
Old Key West and Old Key West Extended contracts clearly give you the same home resort. The only difference is that the extended contracts give you an extra 15 years on the contract. This difference in contract length is not as dramatic as that between Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek, but there is still about a $10/point difference between Old Key West and Old Key West Extended contracts.
Lower Points Charts
A lower points chart can make all the difference in what you get out of your points. The fewer points you need to spend on a stay, the more vacation days you can get! Older resorts like those that expire in 2042 have much lower points charts than the resorts that were established in 2009 and beyond.
As an example, look at the points chart for the Beach Club. There, One Bedroom Villas range from 26 to 56 points per night. By contrast, Riviera (also an EPCOT resort) has One Bedroom Villas that range from 29 to 81 points per night.
Home Resort Advantage
While Old Key West is typically easy to book, the other 2042 DVC resorts can be more challenging to book depending on the time of year. Boulder Ridge is difficult to book during the holidays, and the BoardWalk is extra popular whenever there is an EPCOT festival. Beach Club seems to be a rare find year round for those who don’t own points there. Even Vero Beach and Hilton Head can be tough during the peak summer vacation months when rooms are more in demand.
Dues That End Sooner
While a shorter contract life may not be appealing to some, the upside is that you also have fewer years to pay annual dues. Annual dues can be a significant cost over time, especially since they do increase from year to year. Having those fees come to an end sooner rather than later can actually be a bonus.
