Disney to Restore Cinderella Castle’s Classic Look at Magic Kingdom After D23 2025 Reveal

History won’t remember Destination D23 2025 as a seminal Disney event like D23 2024. Still, The Walt Disney Company announced several more park updates coming soon, including a regal change at Magic Kingdom. Cinderella Castle will go back to the future. Here’s what you need to know.

Walt Disney World opened in 1971, and its signature landmark, Cinderella Castle, has undergone numerous changes over the years. Disney often refreshes the castle’s look and color scheme. Most recently, the company introduced the rose gold and royal blue colors for the park’s 50th anniversary. 

We’d all agree this version of the castle looks better than some of the sillier ones, such as the birthday cake castle from Magic Kingdom’s 25th anniversary. By this point, you may have forgotten how Cinderella Castle appeared in 1971. Well, I’ve got good news!

During the Beyond the Spires: An Insider Look at Disney Castles panel at Destination D23, park officials indicated a new color scheme is coming soon. This one will draw inspiration from Cinderella Castle’s original look, especially its color palette!

Disney indicated that cream and gray colors will offset blue and gold highlights. The goal of this redesign is to emphasize the castle’s architecture. It’ll be a retro tribute to the origins of Cinderella Castle. In case you didn’t know, the initial plan for the castle called for it to reflect Florida sunshine, with the castle glimmering from any angle. Presumably, the next update will accentuate this philosophy.

Disney Provides Villains Land Updates

A few weeks ago, Disney confirmed that Destination D23 wouldn’t feature a theme park panel. At that point, the company hinted that it would still reveal some details during the Disney Villains: Icons of Evil panel. I’ll just level with you that “some” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

Disney chose not to announce the rides coming to the Disney Villains themed land at Magic Kingdom as expected. We didn’t even learn the types of rides. Instead, Disney mentioned a “new” hire. 

Disney Legend Andreas Deja has returned to the company in an advisory role. I’ll refer you to the animator’s Wikipedia page so that you can see why that’s a big deal. Yes, he’s one of the driving forces behind Disney Villains such as Gaston, Jafar in Aladdin, and Scar in The Lion King. So, that’s…pretty good. You can imagine how valuable his contributions will be to Villains Land.

Beyond that, we really didn’t learn much about the upcoming themed land. Disney is playing this one close to the vest for now. We may not learn about the rides here until next year’s D23. Speaking of which, Disney announced the dates for that event. It’ll run from August 14th through 16th.

On the bright side, Disney will emphasize its Villains more in the future. For starters, Dr. Facilier will set sail on the Disney Destiny. When the cruise launches, the “practitioner of the macabre” will participate in a “meet and play” character greeting. According to the Disney Parks Blog, he’ll even have his own “makeshift parlor.” 

Disney Announced Some International Experiences, Too

Internationally, Hong Kong Disneyland will host Uninvited! A Villains Takeover Party on September 19th. Disney indicates this party “will include elements of a Cavalcade, a street show, and a musical spectacle.” 

The backstory on this one sounds fantastic. Here’s the hook: “After being uninvited from yet another royal gathering, Maleficent decides to stir up some fun.”

Finally, we learned when World of Frozen will debut at Disneyland Paris. Well, sort of. The new Arendelle themed land will arrive in the Spring of 2026. So, those of you thinking about a trip to Paris next year should target the April/May timeframe. March is a possibility as well, but it’s typically best to err on the side of caution on these things, at least until Disney confirms an exact date.
