Let’s Discuss the Booking Options at Fort Wilderness

Virtually every Disney Vacation Club resort features several Room Types, all of which delight members with their specific quirks. I used to say, “Every Disney Vacation Club resort,” though. I can’t anymore because of the property we’ll talk about today. Let’s discuss the booking option at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. It’s a Cabin, and you’re going to love it.

The Cabin’s Specifics

Here’s the DVC Resale Market Points Chart for The Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort. That one column looks so sad and lonely compared to most Points Charts, doesn’t it? Well, there’s a reason for the solo listing. You wouldn’t ever stay anywhere else at Fort Wilderness, even if that were an option.

The Cabins here are so good that you may never choose another DVC resort. And part of the reason why is that they’re so spacious yet affordable. According to the Points Chart, a one-night stay here ranges from 15 to 36 DVC Points. During 50 out of 52 weeks each year, you can hole up in a Cabin for a week for 176 DVC Points or less. That’s incredible value, especially given what you’re getting.

Fort Wilderness DVC - Interior

These standalone Cabins cover 504 square feet of space, which places them in the same range as the classic Studios at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, but the Cabins are a bit bigger. The Studios are 465 square feet and feel massive. So, you can imagine how spacious the Cabins are.

That’s just the interior, as the exterior reveals why these Cabins are so popular. They’re standalone buildings, giving you the Disney equivalent of a small yard to yourself. You can hole up in a Cabin and feel like your family is alone. How many places at Disney is it even possible to say that?

Each outdoor area even comes with a driveway for golf carts, which you can rent at Fort Wilderness. They currently cost $70.42–$93.89 plus tax, which is a bargain since you can go on and off-roading around Fort Wilderness. I’m just kidding. Please stay on the roads.

You’ll also find an outdoor grill at your Cabin as well. So, it’s like you’re staying at your own house, but you know you’re not since you can hop on a boat and be at Magic Kingdom in 15 minutes. While you’re at the Cabin, you can grill or drive around the block just like at home, though. It’s a strangely empowering opportunity at Disney.

The Cabin’s Amenities

I’ve primarily focused on the exterior and generalities thus far. That’s because I’m saving the true selling point of the Cabins for this section. Long story short, they really are mini-homes complete with full-sized kitchens and living rooms.

I don’t want to oversell what you’ll find here, as the individual rooms will obviously be smaller than what you have at home. This is a tiny house lover’s dream hotel stay, though. You will marvel at the efficiency of these Cabins. Here’s a  DVC Fan video to prove the point:

You’ll note that the Cabins sleep six guests, a rarity for standard DVC Room Types. The bunk beds in the master bedroom enable the extra guest (or two) to sleep comfortably. You’ll also find a queen bed and a queen-sized pull-down. Thus, you have more bedding than usual. It probably would get a bit cramped if many of your guests are adults, but the modular nature of the Cabin helps tremendously.

Since Disney is catering more to the camper lifestyle, the amenities include a full-sized kitchen. So, you can eat more in your hotel room at the Cabins than at most standard DVC rooms as well.

The living room area, while tighter than some, still includes a comfy sofa and an HDTV. You can definitely hang out here and not feel crowded. As a pro tip, I’d suggest using the dining room table to stretch out a bit. There’s also a small chair in the living room that comes standard. Disney cleverly chose not to use a recliner here so that you can move the chair around a bit, depending on the composition of your party.

Circling back to the outside for a second, there’s also an outdoor sitting area right beside this chair. So, you can relax and enjoy the great outdoors for a while. Then, when you’re ready, you can switch back to the living room. Disney knows that Fort Wilderness fans want to be outside more and has planned accordingly.

Then, we have the bedroom, which is again a bit tight yet so smartly crafted that it feels much bigger. Families with young children will absolutely adore sleeping side by side, with the parents on the queen bed and the kids in their bunk beds. I suspect that these families will hold some of their warmest childhood memories of the new Cabins. They’re just perfect for parents with kids under the age of ten.

There’s also another HDTV in here. So, if you do intend to spend more time indoors, your traveling party can watch two different programs. That’ll save you from content compromises.

I know that I’m gushing a bit here, but I consider the Cabins an absolute masterstroke. One size isn’t supposed to fit all, yet this Room Type fits the needs of so many different groups. We’re talking campers and lovers of the great outdoors, families with children, and those who simply seek solitude when they’re not at Disney’s theme parks. The Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort represent a phenomenal addition to the DVC portfolio.
