You’re at Copper Creek, What Should You Do?

Copper Creek Villas

When you visit a Disney Vacation Club Resort, you’ll find a wide range of amenities to entertain you during your visit. Obviously, you’ll spend part of your trip at Disney theme parks. Sometimes, you’ll want to mix things up a bit, though.

Long-time DVC members know that you never even need to leave your resort to have a wonderful time. One of the best properties for these wonderful Disney-related diversions is Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Resort. When you’re visiting Copper Creek, here are a few things you should do.

Go Bass Fishing

In case you’re unaware, Copper Creek is the younger fraternal twin of Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Resort. The two DVC properties share the same hotel. I previously wrote several suggestions about Boulder Ridge, and they apply to Copper Creek as well.

So, I’ll double your options today by adding a few more I didn’t discuss last time. A couple of these are paid amenities, but they’re worth the money. And one will appeal to fans of the great outdoors.

You can hang a Gone Fishin’ sign on your door and head to the dock. Here, you can participate in a guided fishing expedition. While one person can do this, it’s definitely better with a group of up to five. A solo fisher will receive a discount, though, which may matter to you.

This tour costs $270 for two hours or $455 for four hours. You’re probably wondering what you get for your money, and the answer is a surprising amount. A Cast Member will guide you throughout the expedition. Disney also provides all the equipment you need.

You’ll get free (non-alcoholic) drinks during your tour, but you should know that you cannot bring your own food or beverages. It’s a dry boat. As for the boat itself, a party of five will ride on a Sun Tracker Fishing Barge pontoon boat, while smaller parties may sail on a smaller tournament-style NITRO® bass fishing boat instead. The pontoon boats are more accommodating, while the tournament-style boats are more fun.

Relax at Humphrey’s Hideout

DVC resorts offer various arts and crafts options. You simply need to know where to look. At Wilderness Lodge, the magic happens at Humphrey’s Hideout, formerly known as Salon by the Springs, which is free to visit.

Some of the activities here do require a modest fee. However, you usually make some sort of memento you get to take home with you, making it a good deal.

The building itself is unique because Disney opened this space as a salon. Since then, it has morphed into a family entertainment center that still has some sinks. Now, you’ll find acrylic paints where the shampoos used to be. Here’s how the space looks now:

So, Humphrey’s Hideout is accurately named. Many people remember the salon, which opened briefly but hasn’t been seen in years. Few of them realize that plenty of crafting opportunities await in this building. The best time to visit currently is from 3-4 p.m., as that’s when Disney hosts the “Craft of the Day.”

Rent a Bike

As a DVC member, you should already appreciate the beauty of this hotel campus. Still, you’ll admire the glistening springs and tranquil foliage much more when you explore the grounds.

The best way to do that is by renting a bike and exploring the grounds. Disney rents bikes by the hour or for the full day, with the latter providing better value on a non-park day.

While individual bikes are fun, I’m a shameless tourist. So, I always choose the Surrey Bikes, which cost roughly double. You’ll have your choice of two- or four-person Surrey Bike rentals. Based on my experience, a bike for four is the best way to turn a group of friends into enemies for the duration of the ride. It’s like a swan boat for four. But if you relish chaos, a four-person Surrey Bike ride is definitely unforgettable.

Watch the Electrical Water Pageant

When DVC owners think about the Electrical Water Pageant, a few resorts naturally spring to mind. Generally, people think about Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

For whatever reason, Wilderness Lodge slips beneath the radar a bit. As a gentle reminder, this resort features boat transportation to and from Magic Kingdom. So, yes, it also offers a wonderful view of the Electrical Water Pageant. Here’s a video to reinforce the point:

Be honest. You had no idea that Copper Creek was the place to be for the Electrical Water Pageant, did you? That’s merely one of countless exceptional amenities you’ll discover on the Wilderness Lodge campus.
